10 Steps To Pray The Janazah Prayer

Janazah prayer steps are below, follow these 10 Steps To Pray The Janazah Prayer correctly. Funeral prayers are just standing prayer, it mean no Rukuh and no Sajda.

According to Muhammad (SAW) and his companions, the prayer should be performed as follows:

1- Line Up The Rows Behind The Imam

Salat Janazah is performed standing in straight lines. It is best for those who praying Salat Janazah dua, stand in odd rows. If women are in this prayer, those should be stand behind the men line. Imam will stand in separate line front of all other rows. Face of all people should be to the Qibla Sharif like other normal prayers. Body of the deceased to be placed in-front of Imam. Died person face also turn to the qibla direction. One body should be put in front of the other if there are many deceased.

Before attending the funeral prayers. It is customary to perform Wudhu, a traditional Islamic ritual of purification. It is better to perform ablution at home before attend the funeral.

2- Make The Intention of Prayer

Intend that you intend to pray for the dead. You don’t have to say it out loud – you can express your intention to pray in your heart, and whatever language is most comfortable for you. You can use your own words, but as a suggestion, try to say something like this:

“I intend to pray for Allah Almighty and pray for the deceased.”

3- Say The First Takbeer After Imam

When imam said Takbeer, it is signal that prayers are started. Imam says “ALLAH O AKBAR” after that all audience follow the imam. Raise your hands till ears while performing takbeer. As usual, put your hand on your forearm, your right hand on your left side.

4- Seek Refuge In Allah from Shaytan

After the first takbeer, The Imam seek refuge with Allah from the Shaytan, the accursed.

أعوذُ بِٱللَّهِ مِنَ ٱلشَّيۡطَٰنِ ٱلرَّجِيمِ

I seek refuge in Allah from the accursed Shaitan

5- Recite Surah Al-Fatiha

Recites the first chapter of the Qu’ran, Surah Al-Fatiha.

 بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ (١) ٱلۡحَمۡدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلۡعَـٰلَمِينَ (٢) ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ (٣) مَـٰلِكِ يَوۡمِ ٱلدِّينِ (٤) إِيَّاكَ نَعۡبُدُ وَإِيَّاكَ نَسۡتَعِينُ (٥) ٱهۡدِنَا ٱلصِّرَٲطَ ٱلۡمُسۡتَقِيمَ (٦) صِرَٲطَ ٱلَّذِينَ أَنۡعَمۡتَ عَلَيۡهِمۡ غَيۡرِ ٱلۡمَغۡضُوبِ عَلَيۡهِمۡ وَلَا ٱلضَّآلِّينَ (٧)

Translation

In the name of Allah Most Gracious Most Merciful. (١) All Praise unto Allah, Lord of the worlds. (2) The Compassionate, the Merciful (3) Sovereign of the Day of Reckoning (4) Thee alone we worship; and of Thee alone we seek help (5) Guide us in the straight path (6) the path of those whom Thou hast favoured. On whom Thy indignation has not befallen, and who have not gone astray (7)

6- Say The second Takbeer

الله أكبر

7- Recite The Durood e Ibrahim

ٱللَّٰهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا صَلَّيْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ
ٱللَّٰهُمَّ بَارِكْ عَلَىٰ مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ كَمَا بَارَكْتَ عَلَىٰ إِبْرَاهِيمَ وَعَلَىٰ آلِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ إِنَّكَ حَمِيدٌ مَجِيدٌ

Translation

O Allah, let Your Peace come upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as you have brought peace to Ibrahim and his family. Truly, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious. Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as you have blessed Ibrahim and his family. Truly, You are Praiseworthy and Glorious.

8- Say The Third Takbeer

الله أكبر

9- Perform The Dua For Deceased

Dua For Mature Deceased Person male or female. Following is the most popular dua

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِحَيِّنَا وَمَيِّتِنَا وَشَاهِدِنَا وَغَائِبِنَا وَصَغِيرِنَا وَكَبِيرِنَا وَذَكَرِنَا وَأُنْثَانَا اللَّهُمَّ مَنْ أَحْيَيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَأَحْيِهِ عَلَى الإِسْلاَمِ وَمَنْ تَوَفَّيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَتَوَفَّهُ عَلَى الإِيمَانِ اللَّهُمَّ لاَ تَحْرِمْنَا أَجْرَهُ وَلاَ تُضِلَّنَا بَعْدَهُ ‏.اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَيْهِ وَاغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ وَعَافِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنْهُ وَاغْسِلْهُ بِمَاءٍ وَثَلْجٍ وَبَرَدٍ وَنَقِّهِ مِنَ الذُّنُوبِ وَالْخَطَايَا كَمَا يُنَقَّى الثَّوْبُ الأَبْيَضُ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ وَأَبْدِلْهُ بِدَارِهِ دَارًا خَيْرًا مِنْ دَارِهِ وَأَهْلاً خَيْرًا مِنْ أَهْلِهِ وَقِهِ فِتْنَةَ الْقَبْرِ وَعَذَابَ النَّارِ.

English Translation

“O Allah, forgive our existence and our deceased, those who are present among us and those who are lost, our junior and our aged, our males and females,” O Allah, Keep alive in Islam whoever you keep alive from among us, and whoever You kill, kill him in faith., O Allah, pardon him, show leniency toward him; keep him free from all harm; excuse him; regard his rest; make his way simpler; give him water, snow, and hail, and purge him of transgression as a white piece of clothing is purified of soil. O Allah, Give him a house that is superior to his home and a family that is superior to his family.

Dua for Namaz e Janaza of the male child

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ فَرَطًا وَذُخْرًا لِوَالِدَيْهِ وَشَفِيعًا مُجَابًا ،اللَّهُمَّ ثَقِّلْ بِهِ مَوَازِينَهُمَا ، وَأَعْظِمْ بِهِ أُجُورَهُمَا ، وَأَلْـحِقْـهُ بِصَالِـحِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ ، وَاجْعَلْهُ فِي كَفَالَةِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، وَقِهِ بِرَحْمَتِكَ عَذَابَ الْجَحِيمِ

Translation

Gracious God, Make him (this youngster) a beginning of profit and fortune for us, and make him a pleader for us and one whose pleading is recognized.

Note: It is up to you, you can either choose to raise your hands up to your earlobes or leave them as it during takbeers. Both ways are permissible and you are not guilty.

Below are some of them: اللهُـمِّ اغْفِـرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْـه ، وَعافِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنْـه ، وَأَكْـرِمْ نُزُلَـه ، وَوَسِّـعْ مُدْخَـلَه ، وَاغْسِلْـهُ بِالْمـاءِ وَالثَّـلْجِ وَالْبَـرَدْ ، وَنَقِّـهِ مِنَ الْخطـايا كَما نَـقّيْتَ الـثَّوْبُ الأَبْيَـضُ مِنَ الدَّنَـسْ ، وَأَبْـدِلْهُ داراً خَـيْراً مِنْ دارِه ، وَأَهْلاً خَـيْراً مِنْ أَهْلِـه ، وَزَوْجَـاً خَـيْراً مِنْ زَوْجِه ، وَأَدْخِـلْهُ الْجَـنَّة ، وَأَعِـذْهُ مِنْ عَذابِ القَـبْر وَعَذابِ النّـار “O Allah, forgive and have mercy upon him, excuse him and pardon him, and make honourable his reception. Expand his entry, and cleanse him with water, snow, and ice, and purify him of sin as a white robe is purified of filth. Exchange his home for a better home, and his family for a better family, and his spouse for a better spouse. Admit him into the Garden, protect him from the punishment of the grave and the torment of the Fire.” (Bulugh al-Maram 565) اللهُـمِّ إِنَّ فُلانَ بْنَ فُلانٍ في ذِمَّـتِك ، وَحَبْـلِ جِـوارِك ، فَقِـهِ مِنْ فِتْـنَةِ الْقَـبْرِ وَعَذابِ النّـار ، وَأَنْتَ أَهْلُ الْوَفـاءِ وَالْـحَقِّ ، فَاغْفِـرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْـهُ ، إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الغَـفورُ الـرَّحيم “O Allah, so-and-so is under Your care and protection so protect him from the trial of the grave and torment of the Fire. Indeed You are faithful and truthful. Forgive and have mercy upon him, surely You are The Oft-Forgiving, The Most-Merciful.” (Hisn al-Muslim 158) اللهُـمِّ عَبْـدُكَ وَابْنُ أَمَـتِك، احْتـاجَ إِلى رَحْمَـتِك، وَأَنْتَ غَنِـيٌّ عَنْ عَذابِـه، إِنْ كانَ مُحْـسِناً فَزِدْ في حَسَـناتِه، وَإِنْ كانَ مُسـيئاً فَتَـجاوَزْ عَنْـه “O Allah, Your servant and the son of Your maidservant is in need of Your mercy and You are without need of his punishment. If he was righteous then increase his reward and if he was wicked then look over his sins.” (Hisn al-Muslim 159)

Exceptions to the rule
According to an authentic hadith, Muhammad (SAW) did not recite the funeral prayers for a suicide victim:

Jabir b. Samura, an individual who had committed suicide with a wide-headed bolt, was brought before the Prophet of Allah. However, he didn’t offer prayer for him. Another exception is for someone who hasn’t paid off loans until they’ve been paid on behalf of a dead individual.
