About Imam Muslim
Imam Muslim (Muslim ibn al-Hajjaj) was born in Nissabur in 202 AH (817/818 CE) and died in Nissabur in 261 AH (874/875 CE). He traveled widely to collect his hadith collection, including Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Syria and Egypt. Of the 300,000 hadiths he reviewed, about 4,000 were selected for inclusion in his collection based on strict criteria of acceptability. Each report in his collection was scrutinized and the veracity of the journalist’s line was painstakingly established.
Sunni Muslims consider it the second most authentic collection of hadith after Sahih Bukhari. However, it is important to understand that Imam Muslim never claimed to have collected all the authentic traditions because his aim was only to collect those traditions on which all Muslims agreed.
